The Altus Christian Academy students donated $360.37 of their spare change to Operation Care on Friday. This was a school-wide mission project for the month of April. Mrs. Kayla James, 6th grade teacher and leader of the mission project, asked students to collect and save their spare change for the donation.
Operation Care is a non-profit organization that runs a food bank on the third Saturday of every month where they give out food for those in need within the community. They also hold clothing banks and provide assistance with utility bills and gasoline donations. “We give to about 70 families,” explained Angela Ybarra, Director of Operation Care. “About 45% are senior citizens.”
Ybbara explained that other churches, and groups like the Altus Christian Academy, continue to support low income families through Operation Care. Normally there are about seven churches that contribute, including a combined 30 volunteers from Healing Waters Ministry in Altus, and One Way Christian Church of Olustee.
