Drive-by shooting reported on S. Navajoe
Altus Police responded to a call at 8:56 a.m. today after it was reported that approximately 30 rounds of automatic weapon fire was heard.
There was an apparent drive by shooting at the S. Navajoe and E. Pecan area, but according Asst. Chief of Police Mike Turner, even though some homes were hit by gunfire, no one was injured.
It was reported that a maroon 1990s Chevrolet, occupied by two suspects, drove by the area, and the passenger fired on two males who were walking.
The walkers reportedly returned gunfire. Witnesses say that both walkers then took off running between houses in the area.
Turner added that there was a weekend shooting as well. No one was hit, but evidence was recovered at the scene.
“We are looking at the possibility that the two shootings may be related,” Turner said.
South Navajoe was shut down at about 9:14 a.m. in response to the situation. Altus Police Officers, Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol were working the incident at press time.
