Duke Elementary students who excelled in the Accelerated Reading program were treated to a special day at Southwest Technology Center recently. Reading transports curious minds to wondrous realms of the imagination. It determines success not only in the classroom, but in life. Highly popular and successful, Accelerated Reader (AR) creates enthusiastic readers – while enhancing the teaching experience. With a deep understanding of the impact that reading has on the success of students, Duke Superintendent, Kevin Cansler worked with the SWTC Director of Student Services, Brenda Krieger to arrange an activity day for the AR Champs. Under the instruction of Casey Crume, Construction Trades instructor at SWTC, the students enjoys a morning of learning about various types of wood as well as breaking into groups and building bird houses with current Construction Trades students in the construction lab on the SWTC campus.
