Altus Christmas Parade registration being held

Come one Come All…….Registration is open for the 32nd Annual Altus Christmas Parade will step off from Western Oklahoma State College at 3 p.m. sharp on Sunday, December 2. The line-up will occur in the south parking lot of Western Oklahoma State College beginning at 12:30 p.m. There is no charge to register for the parade. Prizes will be awarded to Float entries in 5 categories. Grand Marshall $300 First Place – School and Youth $200 First Place – Church $200 First Place – Civic & Commercial $200 First Place – Altus Air Force Base $200 Our parade theme is “A Picture Perfect Christmas”.

Debbie Davis is the Chairman of the Christmas Parade Action Group. The parade is a community project with the Altus Chamber of Commerce, City of Altus, WOSC and Altus Air Force Base representatives providing many needed services.

For safety purposes, only parade entries will be allowed to park in the south parking lot of Western Oklahoma State College. “Safety First” is our motto when lining up for the parade! A traffic format will allow parents to drive on the west side of the south parking lot, drop their children off and then drive around to the north side of the college to exit or park. Parking will be available on the north side of the college. You can also enter the college through the main entrance horseshoe off of Main Street, drop your children and then depart. To help keep the line-up organized, all entries are asked to know their entry number when they arrive at the college. The Altus Times will publish the line up in the Friday, November 30 newspaper. All horses are to be unloaded at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 West Tamarack Road.

Float entries need to be in place no later than 1 p.m. as judging begins at this time. All other entries should be in place no later than 2:30 p.m. as the parade begins at 3 p.m.

The parade will begin at Western Oklahoma State College (2801 N. Main) proceed south on North Main to Commerce Street. The parade entries will then disperse as follows: Odd # entries will go West on Commerce St. to various parking lots. Even Number entries will go East on Commerce St. to parking lots around City Hall. All trucks will go south to Broadway St.

The reviewing stand will be placed in front of KEYB Radio on the West side of the street. The Parade Grand Marshals this year are our own Altus Hometown Heroes: J.R. Wheeler, former Fire Chief; Jimminee the Clown (James Dewilde), Little Red the Clown (Joanne Roberts) , Jerry and Eva Letha Lucas. Rick Vernon Chairman of the Board of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, Colonel Tony Krawietz, Commander 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus AFB and Mayor David Webb and their families will be on the reviewing stand. Others on the reviewing stand include Debbie Davis, Chairman of the Altus Parade and Holley Urbanski, President of the Altus Chamber . Trudy Cavillo and Don Lane with KEYB Radio will serve as master of ceremonies. KEYB radio will broadcast the parade on Channel 19 of Cable One.
