Trent Davis, 19, of Mangum, who was awaiting trail on a rape charge, was found dead in his jail cell Thursday evening. It appears that Davis hanged himself.
A jailer reportedly found Davis hanging in his cell. Emergency medical services were called, but Davis was already dead. Davis’ body has been taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Oklahoma City.
Davis received a five-year deferred sentence in May 2010 after pleading guilty in Greer County District Court to felony manslaughter for his role in the December 2008 death of a 13-year-old classmate. Davis was 16 and had a blood alcohol level of .08 when he crashed his pickup truck on a rural county road, killing Sierra Cook and injuring several other passengers.
Prosecutors filed the motion to accelerate Davis’ sentence and rebooked him in the county jail on $250,000 bond in June 2011 days after he was charged in an adjacent county with felony rape.
Davis was also was facing court action in Greer County seeking to accelerate a five-year deferred sentence for felony manslaughter.
