The Altus Chamber of Commerce, Altus AFB Chapel and the Jackson County Ministerial Alliance are planning to host the fourth annual Jackson County Community Prayer Breakfast in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 3. The Breakfast will be held at the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, doors opening at 6 a.m., serving begins at 6:15 a.m., with the program at 6:30 a.m. Local businesses, commercial enterprises, churches, governmental agencies and schools have received invitations to attend. Featured speaker will be the Head Chaplain from Altus AFB Chaplain Major Trent Davis who will speak to “One Nation Under God” which is the theme of the National Day of Prayer. The Altus Air Force Base praise group and Patti Ray with the Altus High School Choir will lead the music. Those community businesses, commercial, and institutional partners who would like to be a part of the prayer breakfast are encouraged to become a “Sponsor” by purchasing a table of eight for $125. Individual tickets are also on sale for $15 from the Altus Chamber at 301 West Commerce Street. Jim Brown, Pastor, Altus Christian Fellowship and President of the Jackson County Ministerial Alliance said “It is our sincere hope that this Prayer Breakfast will bring together community leaders, spiritual leaders and business and commercial leaders in Altus. Perhaps we can learn together what might just happen when we stop to pray as one group for our community and its needs. The power of prayer can never be underestimated.” Last year over 270 people attended the event. We anticipate our crowd will be even larger this year so get your tickets early. Davis is Wing Chaplain, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force Base. As Wing Chaplain, he implements Chaplain Corps mission requirements under the direction of the 97th Air Mobility Wing commander advising the commander on the forces spiritual health, welfare, ethical, and morale issues. He mentors and directs a team of 14 Active Duty, Department of Defense civilian, and civil service contractors to meet the spiritual and religious needs of the Wing’s Combat Mobility Forces and their family members ensuring their Constitutional right to the free exercise of religion. Chaplain Davis was ordained a Southern Baptist minister and is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Air Command and Staff College. He has deployed in support of Operation JOINT FORGE, Operation ALLIED FORCE, and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
