The officer attempted to stop Hurd, however, he refused to stop and pulled into the Briarwood Apts at 201 N. Veterans Drive. There driver came to a stop and a juvenile passenger fled the vehicle and was captured a short distance away.
During the investigation, a firearm and a substance believed to be marijuana was located. Turner said Hurd was subsequently charged with eluding an officer, driving under suspension, and a felon in possession of a firearm. Included on the jail booking recap were additional charges of driving without a license and transporting a loaded firearm.
According to court records, Hurd had just had a formal arraignment on May 2, for false or misleading information given to the Sex Offender Registry. He plead not guilty. His pre-trial docket was set for Sept. 14 on that offense. Based on the new charges made May 6, a bench warrant for motion to revoke was issued and served on May 7. This was for a suspended sentence on a Dec. 2007 aggravated assault and battery case against Hurd.
