WOSC hosting Jackson County Retired Educators Scheduled meetings announced

The Jackson County Retired Educators Association will be hosted by the Western Oklahoma State College Foundation on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 11:30 a.m., on the campus. Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations Larry Duffy discussed the agenda of the program with Jan Shera, president of Retired Educators.

The Jackson County Retired Educators Association recently announced its 2012-13 meeting schedule. Jan Shera, JCREA president, and the other officers invite all retired public education teachers, administrators, and support personnel to attend meetings and to participate in all of the organization’s activities.

JCREA membership is open to retirees from preK-12 schools, career and technology centers, higher education institutions, and other public education entities. Local dues are only $10 per year, OREA dues are $36, and members can also donated optional funds of which will go to the WOSC Endowment Fund. At the September and October meetings, enrollment forms and dues will be collected or potential members can contact Membership Chair Ida Fay Winters at 580-482-8934 to discuss their enrollment options.

The first meeting of the program year will be held tomorrow, Sept. 19, in the Multi-Purpose Center (Student Center) at the Western Oklahoma State College. The lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the WOSC Foundation will host the meal and present the program. Cassandra Glover of Altus will also be attending as the recipient of the Retired Educators’ Scholarship. Members are reminded to park in the South Parking Lot and enter the south gym doors.

The other meetings will be held on the third Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. at Fred’s Steakhouse, 2011 N. Main, Altus. These meals will be dutch-treat. Here is the schedule of meetings and the programs for the year:

September 19 – “WOSC Foundation & Activities”

October 17 – Highlights of the Tommy Franks Museum

November – No meeting

December 19 –Dick Chapman, speaker

January 16 – Legislative Update

February 20 – Lynn Null, speaker

March – No meeting

April 17 – “Memories of the Profession” by all members

May 15 –Installation of new officers

The Jackson County Retired Educators Association is affiliated with the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association, the recognized statewide voice for retired educators since its founding in 1952. OREA represents the interests of retired educators at the state legislature, as well as retirement and health insurance boards. It also offers a wide variety of benefits to its members.
