Don’t miss out on the fun at Beans and Baskets Aug. 18

Time’s a-tickin’ and the tables and tickets are going fast for the Third Annual Beans and Baskets, held by the Southwest Oklahoma Republican women. The fun event will be held this Saturday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Jackson County Expo Center.

A down home dinner of beans and all the fixin’s will be served at 6 p.m. and then Rep. Don Armes will begin auctioning the great baskets. “Armes is a hoot!” Deb Davis said, recalling Armes’ buffoonery last year. Davis said 15 to 16 really nice baskets have already been donated for the auction.

Another high-point of the evening will be the traditional auctioning of two separate prizes, a dinner for four at the Plaza Restaurant with Rep. Charles Ortega, and another dinner for four at the Plaza with Sen. Mike Schulz. “It’s fun to see people vying for these baskets and dinners with our elected officials,” said Davis, past president and now vice president of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women.

Davis says, “Join us for an evening of great food, fun, and politics.” Tickets are $15 per person or tables of ten may be purchased for $150. Contact Davis at 580-471-2573 for tickets or further information.

“Come and meet our special guest speaker for the evening,” Davis said, “Lt. Governor Todd Lamb.”

He’s not exactly your typical Lt. Governor. Todd Lamb was a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. According to his bio, after the 9/11 terrorists’ attacks, he was assigned to portions of the investigation. He’s received training and briefings at the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Lamb was elected to his first term in the Oklahoma Senate in 2004 and re-elected without opposition in 2008.

In 2009, Lamb became the first Republican Majority Floor Leader in state history.

He was elected our Lt. Governor in 2010. Lamb, who was appointed to the Governor’s cabinet as the advocate for Oklahoma’s small business, currently serves as Treasurer of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association (NLGA) Executive Committee and Vice Chair of the Aerospace States Association (ASA).

Todd Lamb and his wife Monica have been married 16 years and have two children, Griffin and Lauren. The Lambs are active members of Quail Springs Baptist Church, where Lamb serves as a church deacon. He has been a member of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association where he officiated high school football. He is active in many other civic and political organizations. In his spare time, Lamb enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, and spending time with his family.

Once again the NCAA botched it
I have to laugh at the NCAA simply because they are so comical in their decision making. This will not be the first time I have criticized the NCAA for some of the decisions they have made in the past and certainly won’t be the last. And by the way I’m not the only one that taking that stand wit...
