Pathways welcomes new director, Liz Moon

After serving Pathways the past two years, former director, Jessica Salmans, moved into a new career in the Mangum area. The new Executive Director, Liz Moon and her husband, Arlis Moon, moved to Altus in August 2010 to pastor First Assembly of God Church. The Moons lived in Tahlequah for the past 18 and one-half years, pastoring and raising their family. Liz volunteered at the Pregnancy Center of Tahlequah for 15 of those years and served as the Abstinence Education Coordinator. The highlight of those years was the large Abstinence events for 7th and 8th grade students (boys and girls) in as many as 16 area schools.

Liz and Arlis have four children, Arlis III and wife Dottie, of Altus; Matlock, and wife Rachelle and daughter, Rylie, of Tahlequah; Lacy and Nicole, both of OKC, who are students at UCO.

Liz is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and directs the Girls Ministries events for Oklahoma Assemblies of God. She loves to travel, scrapbook, run and spend time with her family.

“I love the work we do at Pathways” Liz said. “Women (and men) who come into our center seeking help and direction with pregnancy-related issues see that we really care and can help. They are so grateful and relieved. It’s a joy to be able to give out diapers and baby items to families in need.”

Pathways offers “parenting sessions” with the Earn While You Learn program. Those who are pregnant or have recently had a baby can come in for these classes and earn baby supplies, clothing and equipment. Pathways is supported by local churches, businesses, and individuals.

The ministry of Pathways was launched in 2000 with local resident, Robyn Kidd as the director. Many past and present citizens of Altus have been involved in Pathways over the past years as volunteers, board members and staff.

Sandy Dowden, current Pathways Office Manager welcomes clients and assists in many areas of daily operation.

Becoming a Medical Clinic is the next goal for Pathways as they work towards being able to provide limited obstetrical ultrasounds by qualified nurses and physicians, to confirm pregnancy. During this next year Pathways will be working with a consultant to make the necessary changes to “go medical” and the excitement is growing.

Pathways is open Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pathways welcomes anyone needing a pregnancy test or any other of our services to drop by or make an appointment by calling 580.477.4400 or texting 405.949.0124.

Once again the NCAA botched it
I have to laugh at the NCAA simply because they are so comical in their decision making. This will not be the first time I have criticized the NCAA for some of the decisions they have made in the past and certainly won’t be the last. And by the way I’m not the only one that taking that stand wit...
