April is the 44th anniversary of the Title VIII section of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, known as the Federal Housing Act. Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group’s (SOCAG) Housing Program supports the spirit of Title VIII to provide equal opportunity for all, including equal access to housing.
On April 10, Altus City Mayor David Webb signed a proclamation designating April as “Fair Housing Month” in Altus. In its Housing Program, SOCAG helps provide fair housing regardless of race, color, religions, sex, disability, familial status or national origin. According to the proclamation, fair housing “is a fundamental goal of our nation, state and city” and equal access to housing is an important part of that goal. “Housing is a critical component of family and community health and stability,” the proclamation states.
To support the goals of fair housing, Altus Mayor David Webb has proclaimed April as “Fair Housing Month”.
