Altus Southwestern Youth Services needs more emergency care foster homes for children age six to 17 for temporary emergency housing. An emergency ordinance was passed by the Altus City Council last month because Tom Steed Lake’s level is below 40 percent. The City of Altus has been in Stage 2 since March 5, but was moved to Stage 3 water conservation this week, according to City Manager Elizabeth Gray. Foul play suspected in child’s death
On Saturday April 6, Altus Police responded to 708 East Nona to investigate the death of a 2-year-old child. The child’s body was sent to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiners office in attempt to determine a manner and cause of death.
