Students see puppet show

Third graders from Altus Christian Academy enjoy posing with puppeteers after watching the Aldonian puppet show, held in the Museum of the Western Prairie. The show is offered in the fall to third graders from Altus and its surrounding communities. The puppets, along with vintage photographs, teach how basic needs were met for the Native Americans and settlers who lived in our southwest area. Following the show, the students take a guided tour of the museum.“There’s just so much to see,” says museum director, Jennie Buchanan. “We encourage the children to come again with their parents. Then they get to be the tour guides!”

As of press time, two people were still being sought by local authorities after multiple arrests on Friday. According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, warrants were issued for eight individuals in connection with a human trafficking/sex crimes case.Murphy said that an investigation began in January 2013 by Altus Police that resulted in charges being filed in Jackson County District Court for sex crimes against a 13 year old female.

City-wide “Clean Up Altus” event tomorrow

“Clean Up Altus,” the city-wide cleanup event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road between 8-9 a.m., on the East side, to register and pick up their trash bags. Volunteers may want to bring their own pair of gloves. Arrests made in sex crimes case

According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, an investigation that began in January of 2013 by Altus Police has resulted in charges being filed in Jackson County District Court, and arrest warrants being issued for multiple persons, both males and females, for sex crimes against a 13 year old female. Murphy said this morning that a year and a half investigation has culminated to the arrest of several individuals today.
