Smith to sing National Anthem at Giddy Up Gala

Emily Miranda Smith is the 2014 Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Princess. She will be singing the National Anthem at the Giddy-Up Gala, this Friday night.Emily is 12-years-old and is in the 7th grade at Altus Junior High. She loves school and is a 4.0 student and is the 2014 recipient of the Superintendent’s Academic Award. Emily is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma and she is proud of her Native American heritage.Emily has been participating in junior rodeo since the age of 7. She is a three-time youth rodeo goat tying champion as well as a breakaway roping champion. Emily has been around horses and cattle her whole life and she actively works her family’s cow calf operation.

Firefighters extinguish midnight blaze

Altus Firefighters arrived to a structure fire early this morning after 2:40 a.m. on the 400 Block of W. Sutherland to a vacant house fully engulfed in flames.
