Oklahoma Kid entertains with trick roping skills

The “Oklahoma Kid” Marty Tipton entertained a large crowd of kids and parents at the Altus Community Center on Thursday, July 10, with is professional trick roping skills for the sixth program of the Altus Public Library Summer program. Those in attendance learned about the history and science of trick roping, and also received their first lessons from the “Oklahoma Kid,” a fourth generation trick roper.“Kid” showed several roping techniques combined with various spins and tricks as he hopped in and out of large hoops made of ropes of various size.

 

Saturday concert to benefit Altus Lions Club projects

Air Force Ball committee hosting cross-country race, kids fun run

The 2014 Air Force Ball committee is hosting a cross-country “Back to School 5K/10K” race, and kids half-mile/2K fun run on August 2. Group calls for voters to sign marijuana petition

Oklahomans for Health, a political non-profit organization based out of Tulsa, visited Altus on Wednesday, July 9, giving registered voters a chance to sign a state-wide petition to legalize medical marijuana. The organization’s volunteers set up their mobile petition site at E. Broadway and Julian Street, after relocating from Main Street, where some Altus residents stopped by not only to sign the petition, but to also become registered voters.

Update: Burglary victim escapes being held at gunpoint

Gunfire exchanged during burglary

The Altus Police Department began an investigation this morning related to a possible home burglary. The burglary, resulted in an exchange of gunfire in the 700 block of Hayes.Police received a call that a suspect, wearing a grey mask, grey hoodie, jeans, and tennis shoes, had broken into a residence around 8:30 a.m. this morning.
