ELK CITY – The Altus Junior High 7th grade football team gave up only one first down to the Elk City Elks in route to a 32-6 victory on Tuesday night.
Elk City started the game on offense and turned the ball over on downs. Altus immediately drove down the field and scored when slotback Chehemu Morgan II went around the left side for a 15 yard touchdown run. The two point conversion failed and Altus went into the second frame up 6-0.
After an Elk punt, the Dawgs wasted little time in getting their second score. Victor Velasquez punched the ball up the middle for a two yard touchdown run. The conversion failed and Altus led 12-0.
Altus forced the Elks to punt on their next set of downs. With a minute left before the half, Morgan II went around the left edge for a 43 yard touchdown. The conversion failed and Altus went into the half with an 18-0 lead.
Altus received the second half kickoff and put together an impressive drive down the field. This one was capped off when quarterback Raul Facundo went up the middle for a three yard score. Dylan Davis ran in the conversion and Altus led, 24-0, heading into the final quarter.
With two minutes left in the game, lightning struck again for the Dawgs as fullback Laethon Patterson bounced out left dragging a defender seven yards and breaking two more tackles on his way to a 65 yard touchdown. The conversion failed and Altus held a comfortable 32-0 lead.
Elk City added a late score to make the final 32-6.
Altus’ stout defense was led by Patterson, Riley Barrington, Facundo and Jaden Revilla.
Morgan II had 58 yards on only two carries.
Altus (2-0) will play their first home game of the season next Tuesday when they host Lawton Mac.
