CACHE – The Altus High School and Altus Junior High Cross Country teams did an outstanding job Saturday at the Cache Invitational Meet. “Conditions were very wet,” said Coach Robert Garrison. “These runners did an outstanding job battling the elements.”
The off-track conditions for the kids can get very sloppy in the cross country meets.
In the high school boys division, Alan Ortiz took the individual title with a time of 17:20 in the 5K. This was the fourth individual title that Ortiz has won this year. Ryan Oden was fifth with an 18:08 and Josh Baker was tenth with an 18:53.
Jesse Benitez was 13th and Stephan Dwyer was 20th to round out the top five for the Bulldogs.

The Junior high boys were led by Calvin Wagoner, who finished seventh with 13:45 in the 3200 Run. Moses McCaskill finished 12th followed by Jonathan Wathan, Macel Canterbury and Braden Lollis.
The Junior High girls continued their dominance by placing five girls in the top 15 in the 3200 run. Beth Garrison took second (13:31), followed by Sarah Scott in third (13:32). Cayden Beckner was fourth (13:34) and Rylee Borrego was fifth (13:50). Grayce Gilliam was 15th (15:08) to round out the top five placers.
Because of the rain, the timing system didn’t allow for team points to be kept. Next action for the high school teams will be Friday when they head to Edmond for the Edmond Pre-State Meet. The junior high will travel to Hobart next Saturday.
