The Western Oklahoma State College men’s basketball team went 1-2 this weekend in the New Mexico Junior College Classic. The Pioneers opened up with a 92-84 victory over New Mexico Military Institute Friday, Oct. 30. Saturday’s match up with host New Mexico Junior College was decided at the wire as the Thunderbirds scored on a drive with 6 seconds in regulation to win the game 72-70. Sunday’s contest pitted Trinidad State, who came in 0-2, versus the 1-1 Pioneers.
Western struggled to get going and was defeated 68-53.
“I knew it was going to be a tough start and my hope is that the grueling road schedule will pay dividends when we face our conference opponents,” said Coach Rolando De La Barrera.
Western takes on Western Texas in Synder today, and Clarendon College on Friday, Nov. 6. The Pioneers play their first home game of the season versus Frank Phillips College Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the WOSC gym.
