The Mangum Elks Lodge 1169 hosted their annual Hoop Shoot free throw contest.
One boy and one girl in each of the three age categories (8-9, 10-11, 12-13) won the first round of competition at the Mangum High School Gym on Saturday, Jan. 9.
Nine schools participated in this year’s contest including Mangum, Granite, Lone Wolf, Sentinel, Hollis, Duke, Blair, Olustee, and Navajo. Trophies were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
Pictured with each age group of participants are L.D. Ormand, Exalted Ruler and Southwest District Vice-President from the Mangum Lodge. On behalf of the Mangum Elks and the participating schools, the Mangum schools were thanked for the use of their facilities.
The six champions now advance to the Southwest District finals at Ardmore that will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17. The kids will compete with other winners throughout the area to advance through local, district, state, regional and national levels. More than three million kids, ages 8 to 13, participate each year.
