The Altus Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday for the Altus DaVita Dialysis Center, located at 205 S. Park Lane.
“It’s always exciting to see businesses reinvest in our community,” said Altus Chamber President, Brian Bush. “DaVita has been serving Altus for years, and this new service will make their patient’s lives better while helping attract patients from all over the are to Altus. We’re so thankful DaVita sees the incredible opportunity for success here in Altus, that they see the benefit of joining our Chamber, and we look forward to working alongside them for years to come. ”
DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. and a leading provider of kidney care services, has also announced the opening of peritoneal dialysis (PD) training rooms at the Altus Dialysis Center. The center will serve local and area residents who suffer from kidney failure.
The alternate modality offers two training rooms to educate and train patients on performing PD, a form of treatment that can be done at home. This is the first alternative modality option offered at Altus Dialysis which has served in-center dialysis patients since 1996.
PD is a form of dialysis that uses the thin membrane that is lined in the abdomen, called the peritoneum. A cleansing fluid called dialysate is put into the patient’s abdomen through a small, flexible tube called a PD catheter. PD pulls waste and extra fluid from the body, but this stays in the abdomen until it has been drained and replaced by fresh dialysate. Each patients has a variety of factors that are specific to them. Some of the benefits that come along with PD include being the only needle-free dialysis treatment, fewer dietary restrictions, more freedom and flexibility in when and how often you treat with fewer negative side effects.
“Offering patients the flexibility in their choice of treatment helps them to make informed choices for their care and to choose the option that makes the most sense for their lifestyle,” said Jake Brownlow, regional operations director with DaVita Kidney Care.
DaVita Kidney Care strives to improve patient’s quality of life by innovating clinical care, and by offering integrated treatment plans, personalized care teams and convenient health-management services.
