Two local Red River Toastmasters Club members recently competed at the Area K-2 International Speech and Table Topics contest in Lawton. Area K-2 includes the Red River and Burning Spear clubs in Altus, Chisholm Trail in Duncan, and Satanta and Talkin Lawton in Lawton. It was a robust contest with five competitors in each category. Michael will advance to the Division K International Speech and Table Topics Contest scheduled for Saturday, April 16. The contest will be held at the Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center located at 4601 N. Choctaw Road in Choctaw. The Division winners will advance to finals and compete against some of Oklahoma’s best public speakers at the District 16 Spring Conference in May.
Michael West has been a Toastmaster since July 2015 and works as a Contract Specialist on Altus Air Force Base. West, who is an Air Force retiree, is originally from Georgia and enjoys fishing, running, and volunteering in the local community. He is happily married with four children.
The purpose of the speech contest is to provide opportunities for speakers to challenge their speaking abilities, to provide learning opportunities to the audience by observing more proficient speakers. Members of the public are encouraged to attend this entertaining event and support their local Toastmaster, Michael West.
The Red River Toastmasters Club meets each Tuesday at Southwest Technology Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to attend.
