Facade grants are available

Main Street Altus provides assistance, resources and information to help business owners in traditional business districts, and is currently giving members the opportunity to apply for a Main Street Altus facade grant. There are a limited number per year awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, as approved by the Main Street Altus design committee and board.

“The Main Street Altus Facade Grant Program was established to encourage property owners to make improvements to building facades within the Altus main street business district by offsetting a portion of the building costs,” said Amy Jo Cobb, Main Street Altus director. “The improvements to a building facade will enhance the overall appearance to our historic downtown and create a positive image for our business district and our community.”

Recipients of facade funding receive a reimbursable grant which matches 50 percent of each dollar spent by the applicant business on exterior improvements up to $2,500 after the work has been completed. The maximum contribution from Main Street Altus for any announced grant cycle is $2,500.

Exterior cleaning, paint removal and painting, masonry repair and repainting , repair or replacement of facade details or materials repair of windows, rehabilitation of compatible new construction of storefront, including compliance with American with Disabilities Act, new signage, or rehabilitation of historic signage, new awnings, or rehabilitation of existing awnings and placing curtains in upstairs windows.

There are different levels of membership starting at $15 annually, semiannually or quarterly.
