On Monday, 940 iPads and ZAGG cases were delivered to the Altus Public Schools Technology Department in preparation for Phase III of the District 1:1 Digital Learning Initiative. Phase III consists of the deployment of an iPad and case to each student at Altus High School.
The Digital Learning Initiative began in the 2013-2014 school year with research and planning from the technology committee comprised of teachers and administrators from across the district. In August of 2014 certified employees were issued Mac Book Air laptop computers to use for the designing and planning of lessons.
Phase II of the initiative took place in February, and placed iPads in the hands of students in 5th through 8th grades. Along with the purchase and distribution of devices, teacher training continues to be offered to APS teachers throughout all of the phases of the initiative.
The final phase will take place in August 2016 when iPads and iPad minis will be issued at the elementary level. To supplement the integration of technology into the curriculum, Cindy Allen, Director of Curriculum, has purchased iPads and charging stations for each Elementary school to use when school begins.
