Yesterday, Aug. 5, the Altus Air Force Base Freedom Community Center was taken over by Operation Homefront, Airman and Family Readiness and They Serve 2.
Operation Homefront hosted the Back-to-School Brigade from 2-6 p.m., distributing backpacks with basic school supplies and so much more. Families also had the opportunity to take home more goodies as they each received raffle tickets at entry. The goal was for the families to have an experience, not just a site for pick-up and go. The organization was successful.
Also distributing backpacks was nonprofit organization, They Serve 2. The mission of They Serve 2 is to advocate, educate and inspire on behalf of military families. The organization provided backpacks to all military families regardless of rank.
Airman and Family Readiness, provided resources for the deployed families (families of deployed Airmen), goodie bags, a bus ride on the flight-line and plane tour, K-9 demonstration and dinner.
There was a lot going on at the Freedom Community Center yesterday but it was all in support of the men and women who sacrifice daily to serve the country and their families who sacrifice with them.
