At the beginning of Tuesday’s Altus Municipal Authority and City Council meetings, the Council honored and recognized the Altus High School FFA Shooting Team. The FFA was congratulated on their exceptional shooting sports program that has set a new state record while taking the 2015 State Championship.
Continuing with the regular scheduled AMA meeting, Council granted approval to award bid #17900 for pole inspection and treatment to Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. of Tyrone, Georgia, not to exceed $35,000. There was no new business, so the AMA adjourned and proceeded with the City Council meeting.
On the matter of J. Wes Properties, property owner of 801 North Willard, DBC 15-14, Council approved having the order of demolition and notice of dilapidation and lien that was filed on July 8, 2015, rescinded. The owner has agreed to secure the property immediately and has given an estimated completion date of May 31, 2016.
However, in the case of 208 South Lee Street, DBC-10-10, there has not been significant improvement to the property and Council voted not to remove the order of demolition and notice of dilapidation and lien that was filed on April 20, 2015, against the owner.
Approval was given on the agreement between the City of Altus and George Nassaney, Nassaney Land Company, LLC, developer, to allow access into a proposed addition; for the development of a Planned District Housing Addition with single-family housing units. Council approved having Cleveland Street as an entrance, allowing the company access through city property, with further details to be arranged between developer and the electric company.
Council addressed house cleaning items, and approved the revisions of Ordinances No. 2015-13 through 18. Resolution No. 2015-35, to accept staff recommendation for Mark Skiles to fill the Trustee position on the Oklahoma Municipal Retirement Fund Board of Trustees was also approved.
After executive session, Council approved authorization for the Mayor and City Manager to negotiate and execute the purchase or appraisal of real property.
Mayor Smiley appoints the following to the Merit System Board: Rodger Kerr, term beginning July 1, 2015 and ending July 1, 2016, Richard Pope, beginning July 1, 2015 and ending July 1, 2018, and Lisa Greenlee, beginning July 1, 2015 and ending July 1, 2010. There were other Mayor appointments not outlined in the agenda.
Closing remarks included announcement of the Thunder Court official Dedication on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.
