Altus Police learned this weekend that a man wanted on charges of Kidnapping and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon has been aprehended in New Hampshire. According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, police learned that Ashton Garland was arrested late Friday afternoon in Concord, New Hampshire.
Garland is accused of holding his ex-girlfriend in the bathroom of her apartment on Horizon Drive in the early morning hours of April 8, 2015, after a domestic dispute. After the victim and her two year old son were able to escape the apartment, Garland was reported to have left the area after striking the woman with her 1999 Ford Explorer.
Murphy said that the woman was holding herson at the time she was struck by the vehicle, but tossed him aside right before impact.
The child was not injured, but she was transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital for her injuries.
Murphy said that Garland was not located after the incident, and the case was submitted to the Jackson County District Attorneys office where arrests warrants were later issued.
Garland will now face an extradition hearing in New Hampshire before being returned to Jackson County to face local charges.
