Dr. Powers to serve as JCMH Chief of Staff; Dr. Zakhary as Vice Chief

Doug Tye from BKD reviewed the Annual Audit for 2009-2010 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees regular meeting this week.

He provided statistics from July 2006 through June 2010. The audit results indicated that the hospital ended the year with a net loss of $158,256. This was in large part due to an adjustment in self pay accounts receivable allowances. The board approved the audit as presented.

Mr. Jim King reported from the Performance Improvement Committee meeting that was held on Oct. 4.

Michelle Ford reported the outreach clinics had a good month with a total of 223 admissions and 64 outpatient surgeries contributed to JCMH for the month of September.

Bill Wilson reported on physician recruitment activity. Dr. Wyatt Pickering, Emergency Medicine, signed a contract to join JCMH when he completes his residency in 2011. Continuing conversations with a general surgeon and recruitment efforts continue to be focused on Emergency Medicine physicians.

Fixed Assets from Funded Depreciation and Designated Funds to Funded Depreciation were approved in the amount of $32,943.59.

Kay Bolding presented the quarterly patient safety report. There were no major changes reported.

Richard Pope presented the quarterly safety report including the number of fire drills conducted, fire system inspection, new employee orientation and work related injuries.

Wilson presented the proposed changes to the JCMH Constitution and Bylaws as recommend by the committee appointed at the September board meeting. The proposed changes will be on the agenda for consideration at the November board meeting.

Randy Calvert was unable to attend the meeting; therefore, the board did not enter into Executive Session to discuss potential litigation.

Richard Katseres reported from the JCMH Medical Staff Executive Committee meeting that was held on Oct. 11. The Board approved the following recommendations:

b. Armando Moreno, MD – Emergency Medicine, Courtesy Staff

2. Reappointments:

a. Jeanie Loper, MD – Family Practice, Courtesy Staff

b. Winona Mackey, MD – Radiation Oncology, Courtesy Staff

c. Thomas Mulhollan, MD – Pathology, Courtesy Staff

d. Vrajesh Parikh, MD – Cardiology, Courtesy Staff

e. Ronald Woodson, MD – Cardiology, Courtesy Staff

f. Manal Robin-Hanna, MD – Hematology/Oncology, Courtesy Staff

g. Dusti Ellison, LPN – Surgical Assistant, Affiliate Staff

h. Mary (Beth) Stevens, RN – Surgical Assistant, Affiliate Staff

i. Clarence Dallas Tarp, CRNA – Anesthesia, Affiliate Staff

Dr. Katseres, Chief of Staff, announced that the Medical Staff Nominating Committee nominated Dr. Powers to serve as Chief of Staff and Dr. Zakhary as Vice Chief of Staff for the 2011-2012 term. Dr. Katseres was also nominated to serve as the Medical Staff Physician Representative pending member approval of the JCMH Constitution and Bylaws.

Nancy Davidson reported on the Financials for the month of September. The month ended a net loss of $132,085 and year-to-date net loss of $514,677.
