Kenneth G. Hawkins of

Purcell, passed from this

world and went to be with

his Lord and Savior in

Heaven on Dec. 2, 2010.

Kenneth was born on a

160 acre farm in Victory on

Jan. 20, 1931, and graduated

from Victory High

School in 1948. His love of

antique cars and tractors

started after high school

with the purchase of his

first car, a 1936 Ford

Coupe. He began college at

Altus Junior College, but

after two years, his patriotic

passion led him to enlist in

the 45th Division of the

Army where he served in

the Korean War until 1952.

Kenneth began college

again in 1954 in Stillwater

at Oklahoma A & M and he

eventually received an

Agricultural degree in 1957

from Oklahoma State

University.

On June 30, 1957, he

married Doris Shafer of

Stillwater. He taught

Vocational Agriculture at

Hardesty High School

before moving to Purcell in

1961. Kenneth began a lifelong

career with the U. S.

Department of Agriculture

Stabilization and

Conservation Service and

eventually retired in 1988.

Mr. Hawkins served on

the Mid-America Vo-Tech

School Board for 37 years

as both a member and board

president. He was a faithful

member of the Purcell

Church of Christ at 9th and

Pierce. He served as president

of the Purcell Roundup

Club and the Fraternal

Order of Eagles. He was a

member of the Purcell

Lion’s Club and became a

frequent member of Earl’s

coffee drinker’s club at

McClain County Bank.

Kenneth served on the

Purcell Chamber of

Commerce Board of

Directors as well as the

Purcell Cemetery Board.

Kenneth was an avid

“Purcell Dragon” basketball

fan for nearly 50 years.

The Hawkins’ home was

well known as the

“Christmas Yard” to local

residents and many others

from surrounding cities

between 1985 and 1994.

The featured attractions

were the mechanical decorations

which overflowed

into his neighbor’s yard.

Kenneth continued employment

with the First

American Bank, serving as

an Inspector until 2009.

Kenneth was preceded in

death by his parents, Porter

and Paulene Hawkins of

Altus; and his brothers,

Sam P. Hawkins, II of

Clarendon, Texas, and

Robert (Sonny) Hawkins of

Hollis.

He is survived by his

wife of 53 years, Doris

Hawkins; two daughters,

Debbie Clanton and husband

Ronnie of Midlothian,

Texas, and Donna Miller

and husband Mike of

Aledo, Texas; one granddaughter,

Cami Hamann

and husband Sam of Fort

Worth, Texas; a sister-inlaw,

Joan Hawkins of

Hollis; and several nieces

and nephews and a host of

friends.

Funeral services will be

held at 10 a.m, Monday at

the First Baptist Church in

Purcell. A visitation with

friends will be held from 5

to 7 p.m. on Sunday

evening, Dec. 5, at Wilson-

Little Funeral Home in

Purcell. Interment will be

at the Hillside Cemetery in

Purcell. In lieu of flowers,

the family has requested

that donations be made to

the American Cancer

Society.
