The local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4876 presented awards for their Voice of Democracy (VOD scholarship and Patriot's Pen contests this month. The Vocie of Democracy theme for this year was "Does My Generation Have a Role in America's Future?" High School students were invited to compete for this audio-essay contest.
The Voice of Democracy audio-essay contest allows high school students to compete for a $30,000 scholarship and other monetary awards. "The VOD program is designed to foster patriotism by allowing students the opportunity to voice their opinion in a three to five minute essay based on an annual theme." Junior high school students were welcome to participate in the Patriot's Pen contest to hone their skills for the VOD competition.
