Hepner told the Altus Times Thursday about his decision to retire, and a move that will take him to Austria.
In Austria, he will be an assistant coach for a semi pro football team. Hepner will serve as a defensive coordinator and special team coordinator, something he is looking forward to.
“It’s a great opportunity for me,” Hepner said.
Hepner will leave for Austria in February, and return to Altus in July where he still hopes to be a part of the Altus football program, but not as a head coach. No decision has been made on that matter.
“It’s hard to leave after 30 + years here,” Hepner said. “I really enjoyed it.
Hepner was 28-36 in six seasons as head coach of the Altus High School Bulldogs.
Hepner was scheduled to meet with the AHS football team today.
His resignation is expected to be a part of the agenda of Monday night’s Altus Board of Education meeting.
