Western to open against highly touted DMACC

The Western Oklahoma State College baseball team will finally get to open their season.

A highly touted Des Moines Area Community College, Iowa will visit Western for a three game series Saturday and Sunday,

A 1 p.m. doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday. A single game will be at noon Sunday,

It will be the season opener for the Bears also.

DMACC is favored to win the North Plains regional and a trip to the NJCAA World Series. The Bears have appeared in two of the last three World Series.

Western is the pre season pick to win the Plains Region and make its fourth consecutive appearance in the World Series.

Coach Kurt Russell’s club goes into the season ranked number one in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. The Pioneers are rated third in the NJCAA poll.

It’s the third try for Western to open the season The weather postponed a Tuesday doubleheader with Mid America and a Thursday twinbill at Wayland Baptist University.
