“I feel that with my business and previous experience on the city council that I can help solve the current financial problems and to move forward in a positive direction.” Steen said. “I feel it is very important that we continue our efforts to attract industry to Altus”. He added “The Altus city population continues to decrease due to lack of good paying jobs, and therefore we must strive to develop those so that our children will want to return to Altus to live and raise a family”. He added that the City has great employees and we must draw from those strengths to continue to meet future challenges.
Rick currently is the County Director of the Jackson County Department of Human Service Center as well as the Tillman County OKDHS office. He has also supervised the Kiowa and Washita OKDHS offices in the past. Steen began his career with OKDHS in 1981 as a Child Welfare Specialist, later promoting to a Child Welfare Supervisor for Jackson County and then promoted to his current position as County Director in 2001.
Steen graduated from Blair High School and attended Western Oklahoma State College and later Southwestern Oklahoma State University graduating with a degree in Business Administration and Finance.
Rick currently the President elect of the Altus Kiwanis Club and a member of both the Altus and Frederick Chamber of Commerce. He is past president of the Oklahoma County Administrators Association and currently serves as recording secretary. He has served on numerous City of Altus committees during his previous terms on the Altus City Council. He currently is a member of the Altus Military Affairs Committee.
Steen is married to the former Carol Claiborne of Altus who teaches at Altus High School and has two daughters; Meagan who attends WOSC, and Melissa Thacker, who resides in Lawton with her husband Kelly.
