Duke wins Area, heading to ‘Big House’

LAWTON – The Duke boys basketball team are going to the “Big House.”

Coach Jace Newcomb’s Tigers rolled past Lomega 76-56 to win the area championship and a berth in the Class B State Tournament which gets under way Thursday.

Duke completely dominated Lomega.

It was a balanced scoring attack for the Tigers.

It was sparked by Kevin Rice who had 24 points while Kanyon Combs added 16.

It marks the first time Duke has made it to the state tournament since 1986.

Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association officials will have a meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday to draw up the brackets. The brackets will be announced later today.
