Funeral services for Adelita Benivamonde, 38, of Altus will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at the Sinai Spanish Assembly of God with minister Joe Tovar officiating. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Adelita was born July 31, 1965 in Denver, Colo. She passed away on Sunday Sept. 28, 2003 at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Sinai Spanish Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfonso Benivamonde.
Her husband, Mauricio Reyes of the home, survives Adelita. She is survived by five children; Ramiro Rogel, Miguel Benivamonde, Melissa Benivamonde, Chris Rogel, and Victoria Estrada, all of Altus; her mother, Olivia Benivamonde, also survives her. Siblings include Maria Rogel, Alicia Meza, Adam and Adolfo Leopoldo, all of Altus, Angelita Rivera of Vernon, Texas, Janie Benivamonde of Corpus Christi, Texas, Toby and Antonio Benivamonde of Greeley, Colo., Henry Alberto Benivamonde and Alfonso Benivamonde of Sebring, Fla.; one grand daughter, Annamarie Garrido survives Adelita. She is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
Interment will be held at Altus Cemetery. Service are under the direction of Brown/Christian Funeral Home.
Lewis
Mayme Lewis, long time Collingsworth County resident, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2003 at Colonial Manor I in Hollis. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Dodson Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Al Mixon officiating. Burial will follow at the Dodson Cemetery, under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service.
Mayme was born Jan. 24, 1906 in Indian Territory, a year before it became Harmon County, near the present location of Hollis, to William Washington and Hattie Bradford Carter. She attended Dodson School, but since Dodson had no high school at the time, she lived with relatives in Portales, New Mexico, and graduated from the high school there in 1923. She married William Claude Lewis on March 11, 1925 in Wellington, Texas. They made their home in the Kelley Community east of Wellington, and were members of the Kelley Methodist Church. She later became an active member in the Church of the Nazarene in Dodson. Mayme was known for her cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, and other needlework. She was a member of Busy Bee Quilting Club. She had moved to Hollis in December 1995. In October of 1997, she fell and broke her leg, and in January of 1998, she moved to Colonial Manor I, where she lived until her death.
Mayme is survived by three sons: William Herschel and wife Elva of Pampa, Texas, Teddy Ray and wife Earlene of Odessa, Texas, and Melvin Dan and wife Sheila of Hollis; three daughters: Patsy Nell Terry and husband Jimmy of Pampa, Texas, Mildred Ann Cummins and husband Jerry of Hollis, and Doris Gertrude Goad of Pampa, Texas; 18 grandchildren: Nancy Landry, Wendy Cole, Molly Benson, Amy Dyer, David Lewis, Mark, Steve and Tim Lewis, Randy Terry, Brenda Tedder and Kevin Terry, Norman Goad, Marvin Goad, Melanie Cartee, Scott Cummins, Kerri Bazzell, Summer Cummins and Kaci Lewis; 23 great-grandchildren: Jason Paul Landry, Sarah Ellen Spaulding, James Adam Cole, Jesse Andrew Benson, Michael Lewis, James Lewis, Rebecca Lewis, Paige Lewis, Melissa Taylor, Jacob Terry, Ben Cartee, Collin Bazzell, Bryan Keith Landry, Amanda Lea Cole, William Aaron Benson, William Lamont Dyer III, Joy Elizabeth Lewis, Mindy Sue Lewis, Rachel Lewis, Alecia Edwards, Nicholas Terry, Lauren Cartee, and Laura Bazzell; and seven great-great-grandchildren: Christopher, Anjelica, and Noah Cole, Jacob Ryan Lewis, Blaine Taylor, Hayley and Cole Edwards; and numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Claude, in 1962, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Claudia was born August 28, 1948 in Winfield, Kan. to Bob Ray and Marjorie Glorene (Sitton) Heflin. She graduated from Douglas High School and later attended business school. After high school, she worked at Cessna Aircraft. After business school she worked for Dr. Hines at Cancer Centers of America as a medical records clerk. She married Johnnie Jones on March 17, 1988 in Wichita, Kan. She worked as an office manager at Jones Bicycle Center in Altus. She loves to read and especially collecting Stephen King hardback books. She enjoyed cooking, spending time in her home and she collected teddy bears.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Johnnie of the home; her aunt Helen Luce of Tucson, Ariz; her cousin Sue Mitchell and husband Jon of Tucson, Ariz; several cousins in the Burden, Kans. area and many friends.

Funeral service for Katheryn F. Pfaff, age 72 of Frederick, will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2003 in the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Grant Newton officiating. Burial will follow in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home, Frederick. Mrs. Pfaff passed away Monday, September 29, 2003 in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Katheryn F. Pfaff was born October 7, 1930 in Antlers to John and Oma (Fry) Hatcher. She attended Ethel School in Antlers. In 1946, she and Terry Don Pfaff were united in marriage in Paris, Texas. She moved to Frederick in 1985 from Oklahoma City where she worked for Frybrant's as a seamstress, retiring in 1999. She later was employed by Pick-A-Flick.
Katheryn enjoyed fishing, putting jig saw puzzles together and playing bingo. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by three sons; Don Erving Pfaff of Oklahoma City, Darrell Alen Pfaff and his wife Jonell of Oakland, Oregon, and Douglas Eugene Pfaff and his wife Nancy of Oklahoma City, two daughters; Susie Ashley of Altus and Taletha Pfaff of Oklahoma City; her mother, Oma Smith of Frederick; her former husband, Terry Don Pfaff of Frederick and five brothers; Dewey Hatcher and his wife Lois of Antlers, Billy Hatcher and his wife Linda of Antlers, Donald Hatcher and his wife Katherine of Earlsboro, James Hatcher and his wife Effie of Antlers and Carl Hatcher and his wife Locka of Antlers; five sisters, Doris Stone of Enid, Mary Lee White and her husband R.L. of Antlers, Naomi Blackford and her husband James of Frederick, Norma Jo Gaston of Union City, Tennessee and Melba Burris and her husband Jr. of Ada; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Randal Neal Pearce, age 73 of Altus, passed away September 27, 2003. Services are set for
2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
The pastor Lionel Mounce will officiate.
Randal was born in Jackson County. near the town of Hess, to parents George and Mollie Pearce.
He was a 1949 graduate of Southside school, where he was the Class President. Randal joined the United States Air Force, where he served for four years during the Korean War. After his discharge, Randal returned to Altus and worked as a public insurance adjuster.
He was baptized in the United Pentecostal Church and was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Randal also enjoyed people and often visited friends who were in the hospital.
Randal was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by three sons, Tony Pearce and wife Debbie of Altus, David Pearce of Altus, Greg Pearce and wife Kim of Ponca City; one sister, Myrna Bryan; grandchildren, Tanner Pearce, Trey Pearce, Justin Pearce, Tony Pearce, Kelly Pearce, Alex Pearce, Marcus Pearce; great grandchildren, Jordan Casey Pearce and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Bessie Mae "Bess" Arthur, of Lubbock, Texas will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 in Sanders Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Fred Arthur, Jr. Interment will be at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. She died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003.
She was born to Lillie and Dan Burgett Sept. 23, 1915 in Bristol and she moved to Lubbock in 1956 from Vernon, Texas.
She attended school in Altus and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Lubbock.
A daughter, Lucinda Burkhart, preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1992 and also five brothers.
Survivors include a son, Fred. Jr. and wife, Mary Arthur of Lubbock; a daughter, Shirley and husband Jerry Houlette of Lubbock; a sister, Ethel Kennan of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Deborah Smith, Eric Smith, Khristi Swinney , Angie Carrington, Toby Buchanan, Troy Buchanan, and Tracy Burkart; and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Billie J. Carpenter, age 77, passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at Mangum City Hospital in Mangum.
Billie was born on May 24, 1926 in Peck, Kan., to Josie Michael and Josie "Willie" Michael. The family moved when she was a child to Oklahoma. She married Luther Suther-land, and to this union five children were born. After Luther's untimely death in an auto accident she married Howard W. Carpenter. To this union three children were born. Howard preceded her in death also, on Oct. 24, 1975.
After marriage, Billie lived in California, then she moved to Greer County. She raised her family in the Mangum and Russell area. Billie lived in Texas for a short time and then returned to Mangum in 1985 to make her home. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, great grandson, Gage Michael May, son Harvie Don Sutherland, brother, Joe Michael and a sister, Francis Anchutz. She is survived by her children, Sylvia Roberts and husband, Dave, of Mangum; Marzelle Matthews and husband, Doc, of Mangum; Bud Sutherland and wife, Dorothy, of Crane, Texas; Wayne Carpenter and his wife, Wanda, of Duke; Joe Carpenter and his wife, Renee, of Big Lake, Texas; Janet Traylor of Copperas Cove, Texas, and husband, John, who is in Iraq; Also four sisters, and sisters-in-law, Mattie Bea Knight, of Mangum, and Johnie Carpenter, of Duke. 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A service will be held for Billie J. Carpenter on Saturday, Sept 27, 2003 at 4 p.m. at the Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Reverend Joe May. Interment will be in Russell, Oklahoma Cemetery.

McCuistion
Norma McCuistion was born Jan. 16, 1937 in Welty.
She was the daughter of the late Fate and Alta (Pulley) Welch. She died Sept. 25, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She married Perry McCuistion on Nov. 3, 1955 in Vernon, Texas. She was a long time resident of Altus and Olustee, having moved from Altus to Olustee in 1949. She was a Baptist and her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, and playing bingo. Her family was all-important in her
life.
Survivors include her husband, Perry McCuistion of Olustee; three children, Ronnie and Denise McCuistion of Altus, Danny and Liz McCuistion of Altus, and Randy McCuistion of Houston, Texas; five brothers and sisters, Bobby and Darinda Welch of Olustee, Judy Waller of Olustee, Virginia and Jack Snyder of Red Water, Texas, Betty Bornheim of McAlister, and Patsy and Thomas Cox of Yukon; four grandchildren, Whitney, Chelsea, Kaden and Jordyn; and a special nephew, Devin Welch.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sisters; Leona Bennett, Jimmy Welch, Colene Kellogg, and Wanda Rippy.

Funeral service for Elizabeth Jackie McFall, age 82, of Hollister, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Frederick, with Rev. Charles Graves, pastor, officiating.
McFall died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at her home in Hollister. Burial will be in the Hollister Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home.
Jackie was born on Feb. 25, 1921 to Martin "Carl" and Phoebe Jane (Vicars) Ross in Duke. She attended Duke Schools, where she graduated high school in 1938. She married Burgin McFall on July 13, 1941, in Duke. She joined Burgin in Hollister, where she lived all of her adult life. Jackie worked by Burgin's side farming and plowing, and doing whatever needed to be done. No job was too big. In 1941, she joined the Methodist Church in Hollister, where she was very active with the youth and taught Sunday school. In 1963, she transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church in Frederick, where she continued her activity with the youth, and her involvement with the WSCS, where she served in various positions, including president. She was on the official church board. She was named Frederick's Most Useful Citizen in 1981. She was a member of Chapter C.E. of P.E.O. in Frederick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven McFall, in 1989; brother, Garvis Ross, and sister, Carlene Ross Hensley.
She is survived by her husband, Burgin, of the home; son: Phil McFall, and his wife, Judy, of St. Joseph, Missouri; sister: Mickey Hubert, of Tyler, Texas; seven grandchildren: Jeff McFall, and his wife, Lisa, of Arlington, Texas; Todd McFall, and his wife, Kathy, of Parkville, Missouri; Marc McFall, of Kansas City, Missouri; Jason McFall, and his wife, Kim, of Sugarland, Texas; Jamie McFall and Barbara; Jake McFall; and Tom McFall, and his wife, Starr, all of Hollister; six great grandchildren: Megan Ann, Grace Elizabeth, Wesley Garrett, Quade Cole Burgin, Kylie Brooke, and Stevie Cheyenne McFall.

Hardy
Lifelong Jackson county resident Winona Joy (Billington) Hardy passed away Tuesday September 23, 2003, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. A celebration of life service, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus, are set for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Boyd Whitehead and Don Hardy will officiate and interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Joy was born Sept. 5, 1932 to Albert Charles and Carrie Mary (Bailey) Billington in Warren, she lived her whole life in Jackson County. On March 23, 1950 she married Norman Hardy.
For the past 21 years she has devoted tireless hours to the Head Start Program of Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, with centers in Mangum, Hollis, Elk City, Granite and Altus, touching the lives of thousands of preschool children and their families.
Following bypass surgery in November 2002, her primary goal was to regain her health and resume her position as program director. She returned to work in early May, but after only six weeks it was evident that her dream was not to be. With a heavy heart she retired from her beloved Head Start program on June 25. Joy was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a gifted cook.
She was preceded in death on Sept. 23, 2000 by her husband of 50 years Norman Hardy, Sr. Her parents, and her brother Jerry Billington.
She is survived by her children C.N Hardy, Jr. (JR), Virginia (Hardy) Herd and her husband David of Oklahoma City. A single grandchild, Justin Herd of Oklahoma City. Her brother Sam Billington and his wife Lea of Houston, her sister Jan Schroeder and her husband John of Dallas, 5 nephews General Frank Klotz of Cheyenne, Wyo; Bryan Klotz of Colorado Springs, Colo.;

Speck
Burton Speck, of Antlers, formerly of Snyder died Monday, Sept. 22 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday Sept. 26, 2003 at Kincannon Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Chafin officiating.
He was born April 28, 1918 at Prairie Hill to Burr and Flossie Marie (Kaufman) Speck. He graduated from Altus High School in 1938 lettering in tennis, wrestling and baseball. He attended Oklahoma A & M College, currently Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He enlisted in the Army (Anti-Aircraft Division) in 1942 and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Captain.
He returned to the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1946. He married Arline Nordstrom in February 1947 and entered into the monument business in Snyder.
In 1962, he began ranching in Pushmataha County. He married Evelyn Miller in April 1983. She preceded him in death in May 2003. He was an active member of the Baptist church and was on the board of SANE (Sooner Alcohol Narcotics Education).
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Morris Speck; sisters; Lucille Speck and Mildred Ludrick Benson.
He is survived by his daughter, Signe Thurston, Austin, Texas; a son Erick Speck, Grapevine, Texas; and sisters, Mary Alice Darby, Duke, Sylvia Vessels, Oklahoma City, and Dorris Johnson, Altus.
Coulter
Modene Duff Coulter, 91, of Altus, died Wednesday Sept. 24, 2003. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday Sept. 27, 2003 at the Rose Hill Memorial Park in Tulsa.
She was born May 19, 1912 in Bonhomie to Albert and Mettie (McPeters) Marrs. She attended school in Sallisaw. She married Roy Duff, Sr. in Sand Springs in 1930. To this union one son and two daughters were born. Mr. Duff preceded her in death in 1955. She married Tom Coulter on August 17, 1964 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Mr. Coulter preceded her in death in 2001. She was a homemaker, always busy with her home and her family. She also worked in several department stores as a retail sales clerk for over 30 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a long time member of the Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidery work, cooking, gardening, growing flowers and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mettie Marrs; her first husband, Roy Duff, Sr.; her second husband, Tom Coulter; two daughters, Ann Winget and Donna Fryer; a brother, Cecil Marrs; a twin sister, Leona Duff; and another sister, Ruby Wilson.
She is survived by her son, Roy Duff, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, Altus; three step sons, Tommy Jr, Jimmy and Paul Coulter; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vera L. Ernce, 80, Altus, died Wednesday Sept. 24, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 27, 2003 in the Memorial Chapel at Kincannon Funeral Home with Bill Osborne in Hohart under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Vera was born July 6, 1923 in Duncan, Stephens County, to Ben and Maud (Harless) Bayer, She attended school in Medicine Park. She married James Clyde Ernce in December 1941 at Waurika. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Vera worked as an office manager, keeping books for James' refrigeration business. She loved watching TV, especially her soap operas. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and her sister, Ester Appleman.
She is survived be her daughter, Brenda Higgens and husband Robert, Altus; her sons, Pepper Moore of Medicine Park, Jerry Ernce of Tulsa and Danny Ernce of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy Fatheree of Fernleg, Nev. and her brother, Albert Chess Bayer of Goodrich, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Evelyn Lorene was born on Sept. 17, 1925 to Howard and Lora (Williams) Fleming West of Frederick. She attended Wilson #2 and Victory #11 schools in Frederick, where she graduated from Wilson in 1944. She married Raymond D. Hickerson on July 11, 1944, in Davidson. She was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two grandsons: Andy and Heath.
She is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, Louis Ray Hickerson, and his wife Kathy, of Plainview, Texas; and Larry Hickerson, and his wife, Pam, of Archer City, Texas; daughter, Nancy Dalrymple, and her husband, Kerry, of Swayzee, Ind.; sister, Mary Ellen Daniel, and her husband, Arvel, of Blair; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and 11 step great grandchildren.
