The Lawton Tomlinson Wolves scored on a desperation pass in the end zone to beat the previously undefeated AJH Dawgs 18-13.

The Dawgs were leading the hard-fought battle by a score of 13-12 when the winning touchdown by the Wolves came with only 5 ticks left on the game clock.

The Wolves scored early in the third quarter to lead 6-0 when great blocking by the offensive opened a hole and Kelby Fowler scampered 89 yards for a touchdown on the kickoff return. The PAT by Alex Cook was good and the Dawgs led 7-6.

On the ensuing kick Aaron Hayes' onside kick was recovered by Heath Hill and AJH was in business again. Nick Walker rumbled for 45 yards to the one and scored 2 plays later and the Dawgs led 13-6 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw a defensive struggle with neither team moving near the others goal. until the Wolves found the right combination of a pass and run to score making the score 13-12 as Tyrese Flagg intercepted the try for two points on the conversion attempt.

An Altus victory still seemed assured when punter BJ Bush caught the Tomlinson punt return team napping and hit an uncovered Heath Hill for a timely 4th down conversion with 2:20 remaining. The Wolves used good defense and all their time outs to stop the Dawgs and the clock and with 1:39 remaining, the Wolves marched 69 yards for the winning touchdown.

The Dawgs find themselves tied for first with Lawton Central in the Great Plains Conference race. Thanks to their victory over the Cougars, the Dawgs control their own destiny and can win the Conference title if they win the next two games.

Next action for the Dawgs is on Tuesday at Marshall Field in Altus. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
