Police are searching for vandals who struck three eastside car dealerships Tuesday night, stealing car emblems and damaging paint jobs. According to Det. Dan Meyer of the Altus Police Department Wilmes Superstore, Wilmes Chevrolet-Buick and Johnny Roberts Motors, all on East Broadway, were targeted Wednesday night.

Meyer said a total of 32 vehicles were vandalized, with much of the damage from stolen car emblems.

Some mirrors were broken and some cars were walked on. Two tires were slashed.

Wilmes Superstore General Manager Dave Madl estimated damage to vehicles at his lot at $2,500, including one hood that was scratched and one tire that was slashed.

Madl said even more damage was done at the Wilmes Chevrolet-Buick, where the perpetrators jumped up and down on vehicles.

Madl said the damage was discovered Wednesday morning when employees came to work. None of the lots have security cameras.

Meyer said that it is possible a passerby on East Broadway saw the vandals. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call the Altus Police Department at 482-4121.
