LAWTON - The Altus Bulldog Midget football team used a strong running attack and a dominating defense to defeat the Sheridan Road Lions 31-0 on Monday night.

The Bulldogs rolled up 194 yards rushing and seven first downs while the defense held the Lions to zero first downs and 33 negative yards in total offense.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard when quarterback Nolan Cox went around the outside and followed the blocks of Ramiro Flores, Tyler George and Nick Garrison to score on a 13-yard scamper. The run was set up by a big 22-yard run by tailback Dom Nortenen.

The Bulldog defense forced the Lions to punt on their next possession. Tanner Ahrens, Brady George, Ryne Gosnell, Travis Leverett and Kalen Golden led the defensive unit.

Once again the Bulldog offense rode the legs of Nortenen to get down to the Lion two-yard line. This time Nortenen raced to a 23-yard gain to set up a two-yard scoring run by Tyler George.

Altus got the ball again as the defense stuffed the Lions backwards, this time Cox, Jacob Gonazales, Kyle Sullivan, T. George, Flores and Nortenen made the big tackles.

Altus had less than a minute to score before the half and Nortenen ran up the middle behind the blocks of Brad Cox, Leverett, Sullivan, Tyler Dennison, Ahrens, Braden Wagoner and Garrison to race to another 23-yard gain. That run set up Tyler George's second touchdown run as he ran up the middle for a three-yard touchdown run. Cox ran in the conversion and Altus led 19-0 at the half.

The Bulldog defense continued to drive the Lions back in the second half. Brenden Webb, Cox and Garrison came up with some big stops on that stand. After a Lion punt, the Bulldogs began to drive down the field. This time Cox went around the left side behind the block of Austin Fields and scored from three yards out. Altus went into the final quarter with a 25-0 lead.

Gonzales kicked the ball to the Lions and a fumble ensued. The Bulldogs' Wagoner was on the spot to recover for Altus to set up their last scoring drive.

This offensive drive was led by Brady George who followed the blocks of the right side of the line to get down to the one-yard line. Brady George than ran the ball in for the score and the game was called at that time with Altus leading 31-0.

Nortenen led the Bulldogs in rushing with a season high 106 yards on nine carries while Tyler George added 41 yards on nine carries. Cox and Brady George added 20 and 17 yards respectively while Flores ran twice for 10 yards.

The midget Bulldogs comprised of nine and 10 year olds playing against 11 and 12 year olds, have rebounded nicely after a tough 0-4 start. The Bulldogs have won three straight and will finish their season on Monday when they take on the always tough Woodland Hills team 6 p.m.
