The U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Foundation will be collecting unwrapped toys and monetary donations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at First American/First Southern Cash Advance at 118 N. Main. Toy and monetary donations will be accepted until Dec. 15 and Dec. 27, respectively. A holiday party fund raiser will also be held at the branch on Friday.
The Altus AARP and American Red Cross is sponsoring a 55 Alive Safe Driving Class Saturday at The Towers, 101 E. Commerce. The minimum class size is 20 and cost is $10. There is no minimum age and any licensed driver may participate. In compliance with state law, completion of the course entitles the driver to a significant reduction in their insurance premium. The Duke Annual Christmas Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, downtown Duke. There will be food and craft booths at no charge. There will be prizes for the best floats in the parade, if interested in entering a float or old car, call Farmers & Merchants Bank at 679-3334. There will be a pet parade with pets dressed for Christmas. Prizes will be given for the best looking pet.
The American Red Cross will sponsor a fund raiser dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The whodunit dining room comedy mystery theatre for fall '03 will be "Gone With The Wine". The gala event will be held at Western Oklahoma State College, 2801 N. Main. The menu is Prime Rib. Tickets are $25 for individual and $45 per couple. They are also tax deductible and can be purchased at the Red Cross Office, the First National Bank, the First State Bank, MidFirst Bank and WOSC.

Wade Brinkman, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife district 7 commissioner, will present the program. Brinkman is one of eight commissioners. Prince of Peace Catholic Church will host a Mass and a celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Sunday, Dec. 14. There will be a procession on the church grounds starting at 10:15 a.m. with Mass immediately following at 11 a.m. Mariachi music will accompany the Mass. After the Mass, a gathering will be held at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe's feast day. Food will be served free of charge. There will be more Mariachi music, folkloric dancers and more dancers performing, known as the "Matachines". Everyone is invited to attend the Mass and eat at the community center. For this particular day, children are invited to dress in their native Mexican attire.
