At 4 p.m. Diane Dykens of Altus walked away with the $10,000 grand prize cash giveaway with a ticket drawn out of a hopper filled with 642,000 tickets by Miss Altus Ashley Bledsoe and announced by Jerry Butler, disc jockey for radio station KEYB. Dykens is known by many in the area for her work as the president of the Altus Board of Realtors. She said she received the winning ticket after eating at Western Sizzlin a few weeks back.
She was temporarily in a state of shock. Her husband responded to a message on the family answering machine and as she stood on the stage her cell phone rang from her jacket pocket. She answered and said, "Hey You! You should have come with me! I won the big money!"
After a brief moment reply from Mr. Dykens, Diane told her spouse, "I'll be home shortly-- if I can drive!"
The event kicked off at 3 p.m. with a $1,000 cash giveaway, won by Jane Beers with a ticket from The Enchanted Door. A new ticket was called every 10 minutes, with a cash prize of $100.
The first $100 drawing was won by Darrell Rogers with a ticket from Razor's Edge. The second drawing was a ticket from Rexco Drug and went unclaimed. The third drawing was won by Joanne Deaton with a ticket from Ad Preference. The fourth was won by Cindy Boyd, with no announcement of the tickets origination, and the final $100 drawing was won by Ronnie Frederick with a ticket from Rexco Drug.
The rules were that you had six minutes to claim your prize, you had to be present to win, 18 years or older, and have a photo ID on hand.
The Country Bandits provided live musical entertainment.
There were 82 different Altus businesses participating this year.
