An early-morning New Year's Day feud between neighbors separated by an alleyway resulted in two being hospitalized and one suspect jailed.

A 3:51 a.m. call to police dispatchers was placed from 1405 Cottonwood. Two female victims from that residence received gunshot wounds, according to the police report.

Kelly Golden was shot in the lower back and Christina Lopez, 34, received a grazing wound to the arm. Both women were taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released.

According to Detective David Meadows of the Altus Police Department, the incident was a dispute between neighbors. Some kind of disturbance took place between the residents of 1405 Cottonwood and 1408 Hemlock.

More than 20 rounds of .223 caliber shell casings were recovered at the 1405 Cottonwood house, and at least two rounds struck the 1408 Hemlock house, apparently fired from a shotgun.

Meadows said that there had been a small New Year's Eve gathering at the 1405 Cottonwood address earlier in the evening.

One subject was taken into custody. Jeremy Pena, 23, of 1408 Hemlock, was charged with shooting at an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm after former felony convictions. Pena is currently at the Jackson County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned today.

The incident is still under investigation.
