The assault is alleged to have occurred at a home just off Broadway in North Altus. According to Police Chief Mike Patterson, the victim reported a rape and the suspect, who was known to the victim, claims the activity was consensual. Patterson said that the evidence points to sexual assault.
The victim was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital for examination and the suspect was taken to have wounds checked out. Both were treated and released.
According to Patterson, no arrests have been made, but said police have a known suspect. The incident is still under investigation.
