Advance ticket orders for the 2004 Miss Altus Pageant are now being taken. Twelve young women are vying for the title this year. For tickets, call 477-1789 or 482-0624. The pageant will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday Feb. 28 at the City Auditorium. Tickets are $8 to $10, and all seats are reserved.

Altus Chapter 33 and Unit 33 will have their monthly meeting on Jan. 27 at the Towers Apartment Meeting Room, 101 E. Commerce. There will be a meal at 6 p.m. prior to the meeting at 6:30 p.m. All members of the DAV and the Auxiliary are encouraged to attend. From 2-7 p.m., Sunday Jan. 25, the Walk Thru the Old Testament, the world's most popular Bible seminar, comes to Emmanuel Baptist Church at 800 N. Forrest in Altus. Internationally renowned for its innovative, entertaining presentation, Walk Thru the Bible seminars utilize the interactive learing techniques to help people absorb -- and remember -- the key characters, geography and major themes of the entire Old Testament.

Federal and State Income Tax Preparation and E-Filing are available free of charge to persons earning $35,000 dollars or less in 2003. Appointments are required and may be made through your local Head Start Centers or contact the RSVP office at 482-4141. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is sponsored by Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, Inc. - Retired & Senior Volunteer Program from Jan. 20 through April 15, 2004.

Soccer sign up information: Birthdates from Aug. 1, 1989 through Sept. 1, 1999. Cost is $35 for new players and $25 for players returning from the Fall season. Sign-up dates are: Jan. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Jan. 25, 1 to 4 p.m. at Hibbet Sports. For more information, call 482-2653.

The Altus Kiwanis Club will meet in WOSC Student Center at noon Friday. All Kiwanians and their guests are encouraged to attend. Molly Reid is our Kiwanian of the day. Mary Mitchell is Molly's guest and she is the Election Board Secretary for Jackson County. He presentation will cover elections and the new federal Help America Vote Act.

A fund-raiser to support the K.A.Y. Girls will be held Saturday, Jan. 24. Country and western dance lessons will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Altus Community Center. The tickets which are $25 can be purchased from the Altus High School Sophomore K.A.Y. Girls. A country and western dance with disk jockey (DJ) is also scheduled from 8-11 p.m. Learn two-steppin' with style, line dancing and more!

Childbirth classes at Jackson County Memorial Hospital from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. January 26. Classes held in the Ground Floor Conference Room and taught by Sue Johnson, LPN, Certified Childbirth Educator.

Habits for 2004

"Cash for College" will be televised live at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, on OETA. Experts will be in the studio to discuss the various aspects of financial aid. Viewers will be able to call toll-free and ask questions of student financial aid professionals from various Oklahoma colleges, universities, technology centers and professional schools. A Community Forum will be held on the 20-year Comprehensive Plan for the City of Altus at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Southwest Technology Center.
