Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program will begin another training for those interested in becoming child advocate volunteers for abused/neglected children. CASA volunteers speak up for the best interests of these children in the court system. The next training will start in February 2004. All applicants must complete a criminal background check, application and interview before the training. Those interested or needing more information, can contact Shirley @ 482-4600.

Federal and State Income Tax Preparation and E-Filing are available free of charge to persons earning $35,000 dollars or less in 2003. Appointments are required and may be made through your local Head Start Centers or contact the RSVP office at 482-4141. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is sponsored by Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, Inc. - Retired & Senior Volunteer Program from Jan. 20 through April 15, 2004.

Western Oklahoma State College Foundation will host with the third annual Foundation and Alumni Recognition Dinner and Alumni Hall of Fame induction at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Annual Homecoming Dinner sponsored by the Navajo Livestock Booster Club is Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Navajo School Cafeteria. Tickets are available at the door or from any booster club member.

Snyder's United Methodist Men's 46th Annual Ground-Hog Supper will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Snyder High School cafeteria. Adults $6 and children 12 and under $3. All you want to eat or all you can eat.

Global Crusades presents "Taking Back the City 2004" at 6 p.m. on Feb. 8, and 7 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10 at the Altus City Auditorium featuring the Rev. Richard Flores of Abilene, Texas. Music by Pure Heart.

Altus High School parents of junior students are urged to attend a prom meeting on Monday Feb. 9, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Altus High School cafeteria to make plans for the junior-senior prom.

Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, Inc. Head Start Program will have its monthly Policy Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Bailey Center, 201 S. Lee, Altus.

"Together We Prepare" by "Giving The Gift of Life" Tuesday. The community monthly blood drive is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Their volunteers will provide refreshments to all blood donors. Donor processing is noon to 6 p.m. At the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road. Chapter CM of P.E.O. will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, at the home of Shirley Neilson with Barbara Brinkman, co-hostess.

Advance ticket orders for the 2004 Miss Altus Pageant are now being taken. Twelve young women are vying for the title this year. For tickets call 477-1789 or 482-0624. The pageant will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday Feb. 28 at the City Auditorium. Tickets are $8 to $10, and all seats are reserved.

Crafts, products, services and food vendors are being sought for the April Spring Fling located at the Altus Community Center on April 16-17. For information call Martha at 477-2644 week days after 5:30 p.m.
