The Superintendent's reports included a presentation for an Energy Conservation Award made by Karen Mullins to John Redelsperger (APS Director of Related Services) and Robert Garrison (APS Energy Manager). Mullins is the Vice-President of the Midwest Division for Energy Education. The efforts of district employees and students have saved significant resources in this one year. According to Mullins, these efforts have resulted in an energy conservation equal to removing 222 cars off the nation's highways.
The board received an update on the pay requests for the Altus High School renovation and new construction. The AHS construction is now 66 percent complete. The current amount due the contractor Joe D. Hall from MAPS through the City of Altus is $627,797. Mr. Drury announced that Col. Pescia and June Knight will tour AHS on Monday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch. Board members were invited to attend.
The board approved the claims for the district.
The consent agenda, which was also approved, included normal business reports on the treasury, budget expenditures, activity funds, cafeteria funds, Career Tech Programs for the 2011-2012, the rental of school facilities, The CLEP Plan, activity fund raiser, and the annual contract with the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services.
The board reviewed two current policies for minor changes. They were the Online Instruction Administration and the Online Course Guidelines. These were approved.
The board accepted six retirements: Certified - Donna Henry, Claudia Newman, John Redelsperger, Cindy Richardson, Tawna Shultz and Non-Certified - Erma Tucker. Resignations were also approved for: Certified - Linda Brozo, Non - Certified - Charles Lee, Amalia Olson, Paul Ortiz, and Christina Weathers.
There were no reassignments that included salary changes.
Christina Weathers was added to the proposed substitutes list.
The following Time sheet employees added: Shane Gregg, Julie Boatwright and Gloria Nunez.
There was no need for an executive session.
The board approved two contracts concerning license agreements with Cotton Gallery, Ltd. for the sale of Altus Bulldog items at Wal-Mart. These contracts cover the rest of this school year through June 30, and all of the next school year until June 30, 2012. This will include a small monetary incentive for the schools.
A shared sick leave request from Cindy Richards was approved by the board.
A call for bids for a standing metal seam retro-fit roof for Washington Elementary's PE building and/or breezeway was approved. Board Chair Rosalyn Hall explained that this roof has consistently leaked. A metal roof seems to be the best remedy for the situation.
No new business items were discussed before adjournment at 5:15 p.m.
