The American Red Cross is currently taking enrollment for an Adult CPR/AED review class. This class is for those who have current Adult CPR/AED certifications that are expiring or that have expired within the last month.

Federal and State Income Tax Preparation and E-Filing are available free of charge to persons earning $35,000 dollars or less in 2003. Appointments are required and may be made through your local Head Start Centers or contact the RSVP office at 482-4141. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is sponsored by Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, Inc. - Retired & Senior Volunteer Program from Jan. 20 through April 15, 2004.

Advance ticket orders for the 2004 Miss Altus Pageant can be picked up Monday. Eleven young women are vying for the title this year. For tickets call 477-1789 or 482-0624 or they can be purchased at the city auditorium lobby from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Monday, Feb. 23 thru Friday, Feb 27. Tickets are $8 to $10, and all seats are reserve. There are still tickets available for purchase. The pageant will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at the City Auditorium.

Altus Masonic Lodge Number 62 will hold a school of instructions on Wednesday Feb. 25, 2004 at 7 p.m. Fellowship will be at 6 p.m. All Masons are urged to attend.

Altus Womens Bowling Association annual banquet will be on Thursday Feb. 26, 2004 at the Friendship Inn. Meals will begin at 6 p.m. (Pay your own tickets). Meeting will be at 7 p.m. with the election of Officers and winners from city tournament will be presented with their awards.

Chapter CM of P.E.O. will meet Thursday, Feb. 26 at the First Methodist Church in the Parlor with Jackie Witte as Co-Hostess.

A 55 Alive Defensive Driving Course will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 26, from 9 .a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Towers, 101 E. Commerce. Cost will be $10. To enroll, call the Chamber of Commerce at 482-0210.

The Altus Kiwanis Club meets at WOSC Student Center at noon, Friday, Feb. 27. All Kiwanians and their guests are encouraged to attend. Habitat for Humanity will be the program. Shirley Hammack and Sue Newland will present an update on Habitat activities worldwide and in Altus. Rusty Allard will introduces the speakers.

The Elmer Volunteer Fire Association will host a Community Day for the Elmer/Hess are communities on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Please join us at the Elmer Community Center (West of the Elmer Post Office) for a free lunch, cooked and served by our volunteer firemen. Also, learn about the Medi-Flight services available for our rural area. Bring the whole family out to see the helicopter! Call Diane Beach at 687-4437 for additional information.

The Altus Armed Services YMCA serves a Free Lunch once a month for junior enlisted Air Force Families to have fun and meet new people in Altus. Served at the Airman's Attic in Building 39 at Altus Force Base, the lunch features a home cooked meal and is absolutely free for E-1 through E-5's and their families. The Board of Directors of the Altus Chamber of Commerce will partner with Lawton, Duncan, Frederick, and Chickasha to host the Southwest Oklahoma Legislative Reception in Oklahoma City at the Marriott Hotel on Monday, March 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. The purpose of this trip is to promote Altus. All elected officials in the state, including governor, lt. governor, representatives, senators and state agency directors will be invited. The Altus group attending will travel by charter bus. The Altus Ambassadors will be in uniform.

March is The American Red Cross month. To celebrate we are promoting our "Together We Prepare" program and will be giving the first 8 persons to sign up for each of our community classes a free gift. Our community classes include Adult CPR/AED with First Aid on March 12; Child and Infant CPR to be held on March 25; and an Adult CPR/AED review class for those holding current certifications on March 30. The Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council presents the Celtic music group, Banish Misfortune, at the Altus High School Auditorium on March 12, for a concert featuring the music of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The seven-person group will perform jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes, and slides, plus an award-winning Irish step dancer will demonstrate traditional Irish step dancing, including light shoe and hard shoe dances. Dublin native Yvonne Crist provides additional vocal accompaniment. Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $5, and will be available at area banks, merchants, and at the door. The Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council membership fund drive takes place during February and March to help fund the many artistic and cultural programs given during the year. A special drawing from membership pledges turned in by 5:30 p.m. will be held this year on Friday evening, March 26, at the city library for tickets valued at $170 to the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Ballet Oklahoma. The Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council will host a reception from noon until 6:00 p.m., serving refreshments in appreciation of support from patrons. Memberships are $15 for individuals, and $25 for families.

Crafts, products, services and food vendors are being sought for the April Spring Fling located at the Altus Community Center on April 16-17. For information call Martha at 477-2644 week days after 5:30 p.m.
