A man who was wanted in a New Year's morning, 2002 stabbing death in the parking lot of an Altus nightclub has been returned to Oklahoma after spending two years in the Texas prison system
Luis Gallardo was booked into the Jackson County Jail on Thursday night on a warrant that has been outstanding since May 2002.
According to the warrant, Mario Cuellar was stabbed once behind the left ear and five times in the back, and Francisco Cuellar was stabbed twice in the back and once in the left shoulder. Mario was pronounced dead on arrival at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Fransisco recovered from his injuries.
The fight occured in the parking lot between Tejanos Club and El Dos D'Oros Club in the 1200 block of West Broadway.
The warrant quotes a female witness as saying she saw Gallardo chasing Mario Cuellar -- who was also known by the aliases Mario Cuellar Rayes, Arturo Ruiz and David Guerro -- then she saw Gallardo on top of Mario, punching him.
Gallardo's police record goes back to an April 1984 conviction for sexual assault in Hale County, Texas near Lubbock for which he was sentenced to 20 years. He was released in April 2001.
After the incident in Altus, Gallardo fled to Texas and was arrested in Houston for failing to register as a sexual offender and sentenced to four years.
