An account has been set up at the First State Bank for Larry Caspersen. He is in need of a kidney transplant. Proceeds will help defray medical costs.

Last minute Federal and State Income Tax Preparation and E-Filing is available free of charge to households earning $35,000 or less. Appointments are required and may be made for the following dates by calling the Head Start Centers:

Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8 at Wilson Head Start in Altus (482-2720)

Monday, April 12 at Hollis Head Start (688-9177)

Tuesday, April 13 at Lincoln Head Start in Altus (482-3080).

Lessons from John will be held at the Church of Christ, 400 N. Hudson, April 4 - 7 with Michael Elrod from Ovilla, Texas. Classes will be at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, 7 p.m. on Monday, 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 p.m. on Wednesday. For more information, contact the church at 482-1179.

Altus school Enrollment for the 2004-2005 year is now under way.

Sophomores for the 2004-2005 school year will be enrolling at Altus High School Cafeteria on April 5, 6 and 7.

April 7 -- Enrollment for students unable to attend Monday or Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Parents are required to accompany their child to enroll.

Habitat for Humanity Altus Area. Inc. Volunteer and Family Orientation will be Tuesday, April 6 - Part I and Thursday, April 8 - Part II Family application at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Altus Public Library. All interested in becoming a Volunteer or a Habitat Homeowner. For more information call 580-482-5913.

Gamma Goldies will have their luncheon meeting Wednesday at Woody's.

Washington Elementary students will join residents of Grace Living Center, 1059 East Pecan, at 4 p.m. Wednesday for an Easter egg hunt and party. The students from kindergarten through sixth grade have made decorations during the last two months for the center's holiday festivities.

Altus Masonic Lodge will hold a school of instructions or have a degree on Wednesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. Fellowship will be at 6 p.m. All masons are urged to attend.

The Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the Red Cross will hold a board meeting on April 7 at the Red Cross office, 905 N. Willard, at 5 p.m. All board members are urged to attend.

The Altus AFB Officers' Spouses' Club will host Longaberger Basket/Polish Pottery Bingo on Thursday, April 8 at Club Altus. You must be a member in good standing to participate in the Bingo. The price is $6 for Club Altus members and $8 for nonmembers. The charity of the month is the Great Plains Literacy Council's Reading Renaissance Program for 3rd graders. Chapter CM of PEO will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8 in the home of Betsy Roberts with Ilena Vernon as co-hostess.

The monthly Altus Lions Club Board meeting is at McDonalds, Thursday morning April 8 at 7 a.m. All Board members should be there. The regular Thursday noon meeting at the Friendship Inn will be the annual Board Election Meeting. All Club members should be there. New members will be formally installed.

Rods & Rides will be at the Altus Community Building on Falcon Road on April 10 starting with the Fishing Derby at 8 a.m. and the awards for the biggest and most fish will be presented at 10:30 a.m. The Rides Arrive at 10 a.m. and the Rides Show begins at noon and the Ride Show awards will be presented at 2 p.m.

Altus Masonic Lodge Number 62 will hold a special meeting on Saturday, April 10. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. A Master Mason degree will be conferred at 9 a.m. All Master Mason's are urged to attend.

Altus Easter Egg Hunt will be April 10 at 2 p.m. for ages 1 to 12 at the High Tower Park. If it rains hunt will be next day (Sunday @ sametime). For more information, contact Amy Cobb or Randy Marple at 482-2265.

Altus Lions Club White Cane Day is Saturday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lions and Leos Club members will be at Wal-Mart and Bunker Hill United asking for donations to support the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank and the Oklahoma Lions Boys Ranch.

Quartz Mountain Conservation Coalition will be holding their meeting at the Granite Community Center, Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m.

Specialized Alternatives For Families and Youth (SAFY), a leading national not-for-profit provider of foster care programs and services, will hold therapeutic foster parent training, at no cost, for anyone 21 years or over interested in learning more about becoming a SAFY Treatment Foster Parent and providing a loving and nurturing home for children in need. Altus residents will be able to give blood at the Altus Community Center on Tuesday, April 13 from noon to 6 p.m. Every donor will receive a pocket size Red Cross First Aid kit.

The Jackson County Ministerial Alliance will meet on Tuesday, April 13, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Altus. All ministers in Jackson County areencouraged to attend.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church will present a choral and organ concert with the

theme of "Heroic Music of the Church" on Sunday afternoon, April 18, at 3 p.m.

A basic Internet workshop will be given at the library at 10:30 a.m. April 19 . The workshop will be an hour and a half and is for folks who have very little

knowledge about surfing the Internet. Call the library at 477-2890 to sign up or for more information about the class.

The University of Oklahoma Trombone Choir under the direction of David Ross Boyd Professor of Music, Irvin L. Wagner, will be performing at the Eula B. Peterson Auditorium on the Altus High School campus Thursday, April 22 at 7 p.m. The Altus High School Jazz Band will open the concert with a short program followed by the Trombone Choir. Performing with the OU Trombone Choir are Altus High School graduates, David Craig and Blake DeLao. The concert is free to the public.

There will be a dinner theater at the Altus Best Western on April 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. with dinner and desert and on the 25th at 3 p.m. with dessert only. Altus Community Players presents "The Nerd". Advanced ticket are on sale now, call 482-7138 ot 482-1450 for tickets.

Duke Senior Class of 2004 will be having a Cow Patty Bingo on Saturday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Duke Roping Arena. Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. For more information, contact any Duke Senior or call 379-4179.

The Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial Wall Kick-Off Dinner will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at the VFW. Western Oklahoma State College will select 24 eighth and ninth grade students to participate in the 2004 Summer Academy in Plant Biology and Transgenics to be held June 28-July 2. The students selected will live on campus and participate in lab work, field trips, and recreation.
