Police are on the lookout for a suspect in the Sunday night rape and physical assault of a 20-year old Altus woman.

The rape occurred about 6:30 p.m. at the end of South Willard at South St., also known as Old Mill Road, according to a police statement.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, 140 pounds, with collar length black straight hair, dark eyes (the left eye drifts) and medium complexion.

He was wearing a flannel shirt, black T-shirt, baggy jeans, tennis shoes and a black baseball cap with a white logo. He is known to ride bicycles as transportation, and he fled the scene of the assault after abandoning a silver and gray Huffy mountain bike.

According to the statement, the victim left a friend's house on Walnut and Crain and came across the suspect, who had previously tried to talk with her in recent weeks. Under the pretense of accompanying the woman, he appeared to be friendly until they reached an isolated area -- an abandoned dirt road -- where he physically and sexually assaulted her.

After the assault she ran to a house in the area, and the residents of the house took her to the sheriff's office at 9:41 p.m.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $650 award for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, and will double the award for anyone who is willing to provide testimony. Anyone with information is asked to call 482-8477 (482-TIPS).
