Get your popcorn and grab a seat. It's movie time!

The historic Plaza Theater is up and running after 12 years of silence, and "E.T." will be calling home at 7 p.m. Friday for the grand opening.

The huggable alien will be followed by "Harry Potter" at 9:15 p.m.

But don't dillydally -- there are only 600 or so seats in the recently restored majestic theater at 107 N. Hudson, and you won't want to miss the beginning.

The new 16-by-29-foot screen, along with a six-channel digital surround sound system coming at the audience from 32 speakers, actually made its debut last Friday on the occasion of the Rock 'n' Rumble Car Show, with "American Graffiti" and "Two Lane Blacktop."

Janice Day and her son Richard Day II have been working on the restoration of the 76-year-old entertainment venue since they purchased it in December 2002.

"We're just kind of doing it on our own." Janice Day said, and the two co-owners are open to ideas from the community as to how to make it fly.

The Days are especially fond of the early classics and will soon be showing the John Wayne hit "The Searchers." "I'd like eventually to get some of those old news reels," Ms. Day said.

A wedding at the theater is scheduled for August, she said, complete with a DVD show of family moments. And the owners are interested in providing the theater for presentations specifically designed for local businesses, churches, schools and nursing homes.

Popcorn -- yes ... buttered popcorn! -- is available in two sizes: $1 and $2. Candies are kept in a refrigerated case, and chips and drinks are on the bill.

Tonight's feature, at 7 p.m., is "Pearl Harbor."

Admission is $3.50 for adults, $1.50 for children under 12.
