The Tipton High School Student Council and the Oklahoma Blood Institute are joining forces to help save the lives of Oklahomans in need of blood. Altus Great Plains Recreation Scholarships are open to all senior boys or girls. Five $300 scholarships will be awarded. The application must be submitted by May 12. A 55 Alive AARP Defensive Driving Course will be conducted Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11 at the Towers, 101 E. Commerce, from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendance both days is required. As a part of the No Child Left Behind Act, our school district received a new federal grant this year to serve runaway and homeless students. Our district liaison and grant administrator is Rebecca York. Our homeless coordinator is Diane Chowning and assistant coordinator is Kandy Newton. They will share information about the grant and the students it serves.

Southewestern Youth Services will be having a Summer Day Camp at the Rotary Community Center. This will run from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m starting on May 24 to July 30. The cost is $25 per week for children ages 8 to 11 (all day) and free for walk-ins age 12-17 (afternoons only). They will be participating in the public school's free lunch program between the dates of May 25 to June 30 and transporation will be provied so for the other day they will need to bring a sack lunch. Western Oklahoma State College will select 24 eighth and ninth grade students to participate in the 2004 Summer Academy in Plant Biology and Transgenics to be held June 28-July 2. The students selected will live on campus and participate in lab work, field trips, and recreation.
